Starting Thursday, April 9, Venturing Crew 288 will be meeting via Zoom during our regularly scheduled meeting times. We would still like to stay connected and have some much-needed fun.  We will be scheduling additional online activities to work on advancement and other important skills.  Our first activity is scheduled for Saturday, April 19.  We will complete the Personal Safety Awareness Training needed for the Venturing award.   We also have some members interested in sewing masks to help our community.

Due to the situation with the coronavirus, summer events are currently on hold pending further information.  Although we are still planning on these events, this situation may change if the Safer At Home mandate continues to be extended.

Remember to wash your hands, wear masks when out in public, and continue with our social distancing orders!  We know this hard for everyone, but we need to do our part for our community by staying safe and keeping ourselves and others healthy.

Crew members, don’t miss out on our first backpacking trip of the year!  We will be doing a good beginning/intermediate backpack on the weekend of Feb 29-30.  Come to the meeting on January 13 to share backpacking stories and hear how to prepare for this kind of trek.  Here are some pictures from last year:

Troop and Crew Rocketry – ROCstock 2019! It was uber-fun! – (some had already left before our group shot at cleanup was taken)

The crew had a great time biking around downtown LA.  We started with a rock climbing wall at the Chinatown station and stopped for lunch at food trucks in MacArthur Park.

Enjoy the last days of summer by attending our beach bonfire this weekend at Dockweiler Beach from 3pm to 10:30pm on Saturday 9/14.  $10 covers transportation and parking.  Signup to bring a food item through our sign-up genius email sent to members. You may also signup at our meeting this Thursday at the Legion Hall on 9/12 at 7pm. We will have hot dogs and smores!  Additional drivers may be needed.

Due to Philmont and family vacations, we are canceling our July meetings.  We will meet again as a full crew at our next meeting on August 8.

The patrol challenge is a super fun scavenger hunt for scouts.  On June 22, a few of our members headed off to Ventura to find our first set of clues! We had a successful day! We will still be visiting Ojai, a college campus, and exploring a few haunted sites.  Contact Annika if you’re interested in joining the challenge.  There are still a few spots available.

Venturing Crew 288 will be at Philmont Scout Ranch for a 12-day backpacking trek from July 20 – August 5.  Go Crew!
